GETS READY FOR A BUSY FALL LINEUP OF EVENTS Main Street Vineland is gearing up for a busy fall of events and activities for all ages, including: Fourth Fridays continue through October. These include a free movie at the southwest mini-park, at Landis Avenue and the Boulevard -- or, in case of rain, at Landis MarketPlace, 631 E. Landis Ave. The movies start at 8:30 p. m. or dusk and feature films that appeal to all ages. September’s movie is Fences -- a 2016 Oscar-winning drama, starring and directed by Denzel Washington. The October film is The Good Dinosaur -- a 2015 Walt Disney 3-D computer-animated drama adventure is set on a fictional Earth in which dinosaurs never became extinct. Dine on The Ave., from Sept. 17 through 24, will be an opportunity to enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner specials at 15 downtown Vineland restaurants. Enjoy the rich variety of cuisines available in downtown Vineland from various ethnic cultures - - 10 in all. Halloween brings the Scarecrow Challenge which begins Friday, Oct. 13, with the deadline for entering scarecrows about a week to 10 days prior. For more information on entering a scarecrow, call the Main Street Vineland office at (856) 794-8653. The public will be able to vote for the best scarecrow by going to the link on the Main Street Vineland website, www.TheAve.biz, or by voting by paper ballot in select downtown Vineland stores. The winners of the Scarecrow Challenge event will be announced and will receive prizes at the second annual Pumpkin Patch Party on The Ave, held at the southwest mini-park, on Saturday, Oct. 28, from noon to 2 p. m. The mini-park will be decorated for fall with hay bales, pumpkins, corn stalks, and mums. The party will include a variety of fun seasonal games, pumpkin-painting and pumpkin seed spitting contests, and much more. A Taste of Vineland & Volunteer Recognition Event will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Greenview Inn at Eastlyn Golf Course, 4049 Italia Ave. Vineland’s finest restaurants will be offering an array of foods -- main courses, appetizers, and desserts-- at this event, which will also include live music, a silent auction, and more. Prospective brides and grooms will want to mark their calendars for Saturday, Nov. 1, for Weddings on The Ave, a bridal show at Mauro’s on The Ave Ballroom, 830 E. Landis Ave. On Thanksgiving weekend, will be the annual Holiday Parade on The Ave. This annual tradition takes place on Saturday, Nov. 25, starting at 5 p.m. The parade will proceed on Landis Avenue through the downtown toward Myrtle Street and will be preceded by holiday-related music and dance performances. Another Vineland holiday tradition is the Christmas Tree Decoration Contest. Students from Vineland Public Schools will install Christmas trees in downtown businesses on Friday, Dec. 15, and the public can vote for their favorite tree on ballots at downtown businesses. Other events include: Downtown Merchant Meet-and- Greets will take place the first Thursday in October and December, each at a different downtown business. This will be an opportunity for representatives from downtown businesses to network with each other and with the public, but also for the host business to “roll out the red carpet” and showcase itself. Light refreshments are served. Vineland’s historic Landis Theater - - celebrating its 80th birthday this year -- will feature concerts by the Bay Atlantic Symphony on Oct. 21 and Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. The theater, at 830 E. Landis Ave., will also be hosting some other exciting shows. The Fall Clean-Up and Planting Day on The Ave, takes place on Saturday, Sept. 16. Volunteers, with community and school groups, gather at the miniparks at 9 a.m. and plant flowers and help make the downtown look its best for the fall and winder.
